Netherlands Catalysis and Chemistry Conference (NCCC)
Dr. Johan Groen of Delft Solids Solutions delivers an oral presentation during the NCCC conference in Noordwijkerhout in the Netherlands. The lecture concerns the application of desilication to constitute hierarchical zeolites of different chemcial composition.
The lecture evidences that the use of desilication is not restricted to aluminosilicate zeolites having silicon and aluminium in the framework, but can also be applied to zeolites containing other trivalent cations (Fe, B, en Ga). These cations regulate in a similar way the silicon extraction towards mesoporosity development. These results prove desilication to be a fairly universal methodology for post-synthesis modification of zeolites of different framework topology but also of different chemical composition. Desilication can be used to process a wide variety of zeolites into valuable hierarchical structures.
The lecture will be held on 3 March 2009, 09:55 h.

FEZA conference on zeolites and related materials
Dr. Johan Groen of Delft Solids Solutions will present an oral lecture in the FEZA conference.
The presentation entitled "Boosted Alkylation Performance of Desilicated Mesoporous Mordenite" will elaborate on the enhanced activity and improved selectivity and stability of the mesoporous mordenite catalyst obtained by a desilication post-treatment. Introduction of mesopores in the purely microporous matrix effectively shortens the micropore diffusion path length and improves the accessibility of the zeolites crystals. Combined with the preserved acidic properties in the hierarchically architectured mordenite, this leads to a more efficient utilization of the zeolite matter.
The FEZA conference is devoted to state-of-the-art research activities in the field of zeolites and other porous materials. The meeting will be held from 2-6 September 2008 in College de France in the heart of Paris, France.

Macropore characterization
The range of pore size characterization by mercury intrusion porosimetry has been extended from 120 micrometers to approx. 850 micrometers by investment in an ultramacropore tool. This enables quantitative analyses over an even wider range of pore sizes and offers the possibility of handling larger samples up to several centimeters in size and several grams of sample weight. The expansion of the pore size range will better serve e.g. the pharmaceutical and road construction sector where this type of porosity is of vital importance.
