Imaging techniques

The majority of industrial materials and products consist of powders. Particle size distribution and shape are important physical characteristics that influence the materials behavior during handling and processing, like flowability, transport and storage.

The characterization of the particle size distribution and particle shape is a strong tool in R&D and Quality Control environment and important in various areas such as: crystal growth, ceramic and alloy properties, emulsions stability, catalyst activity, paint appearance and performance, wastewater management, and so on.

Imaging techniques such as Transmission and Scanning Electron Microscopy are available in our laboratory and provide mostly qualitative - but detailed - information on the particle size and morphology. This information is typically used complementary to other more quantitative techniques such as laser diffraction (particle size) or chemical gas adsorption (active metal surface area and crystallite size).
