Verschillende gestandaardiseerde methoden kunnen de hoeveelheid luchtgedragen stofdeeltjes meten en kwanticiferen. Dit kan via de Heubach roterende trommel methode (DIN 55992) of volgens de Europese EN 15051 standaard die gebruik maakt van de zgn. continuous drop of roterende trommel methode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the roterende trommel methode wordt het monster in een trommel gebracht en het roteren van het monster simuleert het handlen met het materiaal.&nbsp;Via een gecontroleerde luchtstroom wordt het vrijgekomen stof in de vorm van luchtgedragen deeltjes geleid naar een monsternamesectie. Hier worden de luchtgedragen stofdeeltjes opgevangen en gekwantificeerd in de vorm van totale hoeveelheid stof (Heubach) of vindt er een additionele scheiding plaats naar inhaleerbaar, thoracaal en respirabel stof via een speciale filter constructie (EN 15051). De stofdeeltjes worden gekwantificeerd en kunnen vervolgens worden gebruikt voor verder onderzoek naar bijvoorbeeld deeltjesgrootte, dichtheid of samenstelling van een specifieke component.<br>Het Heubach instrument worden uitgerust met een&nbsp;type I, type II, or type III accessoire. Bij een type II accessoire wordt &nbsp;ook wel naar deze methode verwezen als Stauber-Heubach methode en in het geval van een type III wordt er een extra attritie bijdrage opgenomen in de vorm van stalen kogels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Er kan ook EN 15051 onderzoek worden uitgevoerd volgens de&nbsp;continuous drop methode welke het continu vallen van product nabootsts tijdens het legen van bijvoorbeeld een bin of een hopper.
