De analysetechniek is geschikt voor de bepaling van elementen met een atoomnummer hoger dan fluor (Z&gt; 9).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Het monster wordt bestraald met hoog-energetische straling. Op atomair niveau leidt deze straling tot emissie van een elektron. Daardoor zal een elektron uit een hogere schil terugvallen onder uitstoting van karakteristieke r\u00f6ntgenstralenstraling waarvan de golflengte specifiek is voor het element en de bijbehorende intensiteit evenredig is aan de concentratie van het bewuste element.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Monsters kunnen worden geanalyseerd in vloeibare of vaste vorm.
