ECHA en REACH eisen dan ook steeds vaker stofinformatie over materialen die (mogelijk) nanomaterialen bevatten: de stofheidsindex. Er is niet alleen informatie nodig over stofdeeltjes in de lucht met een a\u00ebrodynamische diameter kleiner dan 10 micrometer, maar in veel gevallen is ook kwantitatieve informatie nodig over de aanwezigheid van nanodeeltjes in de stoffracties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eerdere metingen van het stofpotentieel, zoals de Heubach-methodologie (DIN 55992) en de EN 15051-2 Rotating Drum en EN 15051-3 Continuous Drop-methodologie waren hoofdzakelijk gericht op in de lucht zwevende stofdeeltjes in het micrometergebied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De norm EN 17199-4 beschrijft de zogenaamde Small Rotating Drum-methodologie. Deze meetopstelling is uitgerust met een kleine cycloon om de respirabele fractie van stofdeeltjes in de lucht op te vangen en er worden speciale nanosensoren gebruikt om informatie te verkrijgen over de aanwezigheid van nanodeeltjes in het vrijkomende stof in de lucht. Daartoe zijn een condensatiedeeltjesteller (CPC) en een elektrische lagedrukimpulsgever (ELPI of MOUDI) in de opstelling opgenomen. De condensatiedeeltjesteller levert kwantitatieve informatie over het aantal nanodeeltjes. De elektrische lagedrukimpactor levert informatie over de op het tijdgemiddelde gebaseerde grootteverdeling van de nanodeeltjes.
